BCS, BCS, and BS were the final thoughts going through the minds of the Pac-10 conference after they finished the bowl season undefeated, but were unsuccessful in sending their top team USC to the BCS Championship title game.

The horrible ending in the BCS for USC this year has prompted the Pac-10 to reschedule USC vs Arizona game next year to Dec. 5. The date changes means both teams will play on the same day as the SEC and Big 12 championships.

This game should benefit the Pac-10 since the conference will get national exposer from ESPN, and other Media outlets on the same day. Stupid and crazy as it may sound, this can help push a Pac-10 team into the BCS Championship.

What do you think of change? Is this a good move on the Pac-10 behalf?

Utah’s quest for a national championship relies on the human hands of the AP voters. By being the only undefeated D-1 football team; Utah has a white, blank space on their loss section unlike all the other 118 college football teams.

Tonight, a win from Oklahoma or Florida will crown a new “National Champion," but with one-huge-detail-missing: placing the W next to the tainted number 1, as in one-loss team.

Utah should be playing for the National Championship. Many critics, and fans have questioned their MWC schedule, but SEC’s team plays two or three non-conference cupcakes games a year, and USC’s played two JV Washington’s teams this year.

One can also question if a Utah’s team could handle a team like USC, Florida or Oklahoma on the play field? One has to look no further to two years ago when Boise St defeated Oklahoma as a statement game for non-BCS teams.

Boise St was not given a chance, but with a precise, well-achieved game plan did the unthinkable, and beat an Oklahoma team that many expected to trash the Broncos.

Utah’s victory against Oregon St should be a game that the country should taken more notice with wide-open eyes, and not concave glasses. The same Oregon St squad beat USC which consequently, left them out of the National Championship game.

It should be no different for Utah in their quest. Their resume is impressive with victories over Michigan, Oregon St, BYU, and TCU. Everything that Utah could have done with their human hands was done, however, it now, depends on the human hands of the AP voters.

Mark Sanchez has a very difficult situation ahead of him. Should he enter the NFL draft, and risk being taken in the late first round or early second round, or stay another year at USC?

One has to firmly believe he’s leaning towards staying at USC since he talked to Matt Leinart and Carson Palmer, and they both decided to stay for their senior season. One would be shocked if Sanchez left for the NFL.

Lets pretend we’re in Mark Sanchez’s shoes, and face his difficult situation.

First off, we have to first consider the other college quarterback’s competition in the NFL draft.

So far, the two quarterbacks getting a lot of attention are Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford and Georgia’s Matthew Stafford.

Comparing their 2008 stats together:

Sam Bradford- 304/442 for 4464 yards, 68.3% CMP, 48 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, and a 186.29 quarterback rating.
Matt Stafford- 235/383 for 3,459 yards, 61.4% CMP, 25 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 153.4 quarterback rating.
Mark Sanchez-241/366 for 3,207 yards, 65.8% CMP, 34 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 164.4 quarterback rating.

Based on stats alone, Sam Bradford had the better year.

Size, Weight, and 40 time

Sam Bradford-6-4, 218 lbs, 40 time: 4.72
Matt Stafford- 6-3, 238 lbs, 40 time: 4.75
Mark Sanchez-6-3, 225 lbs, 40 time: 4.71

Now, lets look at what the scouts have said:

Sam Bradford

Positive: a great arm, a cerebral approach to the position and an ideal quarterback’s build at 6 feet 4. (Football Analysts)Brady-like: Quick arm, extremely accurate, and quick release (NFL front-man)
Negative : not vocal, doesn’t have elite arm-strength, and adjusting from a shotgun-heavy offense at Oklahoma to playing primarily under center in the NFL. (Todd McShay-Director of Scout)

Matt Stafford

Positive: NFL Pocket-Passer (ESPN Matt Kiper). Strong Arm, Naturally gifted and strong in the pocket (Former NFL scout-Russ Lande)
Negative: Occasionally throws balls up for grabs when pressured up the middle. Some question his inability to lead Georgia to wins in games over elite team (Former NFL scout-Russ Lande).

Mark Sanchez

Positive: Great mechanics and footwork (NFL front-man),
Negative: Not enough experience, durability, and needs more exposure to demonstrate his stats were not due to his offensive line and playmakers (NFL front-man)

Interesting Note:

Todd McShay, Director for Scout. Inc released his NFL Draft quarterback ranking:

1. Sam Bradford, Oklahoma
2. Mark Sanchez, USC
3. Matthew Stafford, Georgia
4. Nate Davis, Ball State
5. Josh Freeman, Kansas State
6. Tim Tebow, Florida
7. Graham Harrell, Texas Tech
8. Rhett Bomar, Sam Houston State
9. Mike Reilly, Central Washington
10. Drew Willy, Buffalo
11. Nate Brown, Central Arkansas
12. John Parker Wilson, Alabama
13. Chase Daniel, Missouri
14. Cullen Harper, Clemson
15. Curtis Painter, Purdue

Is their something Todd knows about Sanchez that we don’t?

NFL teams that need a quarterback in their drafting order, and the contract signed by last year player at their respected number.

1. Detroit Lions ( 5 years for $57.5 million- $30 million guaranteed)
3.Kansas City Chiefs (5 years for $51 million-$23 million guaranteed)
10. San Francisco 49ers (5 years for $18.9 million-$13.8 million guaranteed)
17. New York Jets (5 years for $15 million-$ 8.9 guaranteed)
18. Chicago Bears (5 years for $30 million-$ 8.75 guaranteed)
19.Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5 years for $14.4 million-$8.965 guaranteed)
21.Detroit Lions (again) (5 years for $13.5 million-$7.8 guaranteed)

A player selected in the top 10 guaranteed money is the same as an individual who falls middle round for his whole contract including guaranteed money. If one’s career is not a complete success such as Tim Crouch, or Ryan Leaf; guaranteed money is golden. If Matt Leinart would have forgo his senior year he could have signed to a 6 year contract for $49.5 million- $24 million guaranteed. By waiting an extra year, Matt was selected 10th and signed a 6 year contract for 50 million-$14 million guaranteed. A difference of 10 million dollars guaranteed, however, he led the Trojans to the National Championship title game in his senior year. It all boils down to the values of the individual. Does Mark want his college degree, or is his primary goal to be in the NFL now?

Fight On, USC Trojans!

Would one consider USC’s season a failure since they didn’t reach the BCS Championship game?

The loss against Oregon St was unbelievably tough to swallow, and left a reminder to the nation that this year team was beatable, or human after all. However, the Pac-10 didn’t help USC in the Media’s eye by losing important OCC games, and not having a consist number one team. It was not until the last week of the season that the Pac-10 title winner was established.

The Trojans had tough luck, once again, and could do nothing to help their chances in the National picture for the BCS Championship. A one loss Florida team will play a one loss Oklahoma team on Thursday for the BCS Championship. Many have argued that a one loss Florida team shouldn’t have jumped the Trojans since they loss at home to Old Miss while USC played an Oregon St away. One should not argue too much with the details since it’s comparing apples to oranges, or rather crystal to roses.

What one can look back is a season that fellow Trojans should be proud of. We didn’t know what to expect of new quarterback Mark Sanchez. Would he fulfill the legacy left by Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, or the often loved/hated John David Booty? He stepped right into the job, and played great when it counted. He had first year jitters, but finished off the year on a high note with an astonishing performance against Penn St.

Damian Williams demonstrated why he was so converted by the Razorbacks. He established himself as the number one receiver in first year as a Trojan. Rojo and Patrick Turner also played well in countless number of games. Videl Hazelton was lost in the shuffle, and decided to pursue his career elsewhere.

The Running backs were also supportive, and played a pivotal role in USC’s offensive. Their wasn’t a running back who become a standout back, but each had their moment this year. Stafon Johnson, C.J Gable, Joe Mcknight, Broderick Green, and even Marc Tyler got playing time. Sadly, Broderick Green decided to transfer and will be a Razorback next year.

Defensive, defensive, and defensive was the main component that troubled every Trojan’s opponent. Speed, agility, and a NFL caliber mentality created havoc for everyone, and not even the ageless Joe Paterno could stop it. Pete Carroll should be proud of this year unit.

With so many talented athletes at every position one couldn’t believe that Emmanuel Moody to be last Trojan to transfer, and it wasn’t the case. Vidal Hazelton, and Broderick Green both transferred. It wasn’t their time at USC, and they should be well-prepared and conditioned at their future program.??USC might not have the respect from across the country, but we did see USC look-a-like being formed in the North-west and in Tennessee. Two former assistant coaches Steve Sarkisan and Lane Kiffin were hired, and told to build their own Rome. Along the way, both took with them some fellow Trojan’s coaches, and hoping their philosophies, guidance and personalities will make a lasting impression to change their respected program.

As for the future, USC will once again be a driving force for next year. People believe the talent will be down a notch, with the massive graduation, but expect them to be front runners to win the Pac-10, and challenge for a national championship. Yes, they did lose some outstanding players, but this is expected in the Pete Carroll era.

Former USC Trojan O.J Mayo shines again in the NBA. He’s having an unbelievable rookie year without much help from his teammates. The Grizzles need a lot of work on the offensive and defensive end; a young talented team, but without the cohesion peanut butter and jelly needed to survive in the Wild West. Rudy Gay in his second NBA season is the franchise face for the Grizzles. O.J Mayo and Marc Gasol are the Grizzles second and third best players in their rookie year. Heck, we don’t even know if Gasol has completed adapted to the American lifestyle, and I’m not talking basketball. ¿Cómo estás Marc?"

This team is so young; it should be given a ten or fifteen point lead against every team except the Clippers. What I can’t believe is how O.J is leading all rookies in scoring on a team of this caliber. He’s creating his own shot, and doing it with a defender in his face the whole time. A young Kobe, but without the girl drama.

Call me a prophet, or better yet, a idiot, but Derrick Rose has also played well for the Bulls, but under completely different circumstances. Derrick Rose is playing with a team with a lot more depth and skills. The Bulls have 5 players who are scoring in double-digits, and they rotate six players whom have four or more year’s experience. On the other hand, Memphis rotates eight players with only one player with more than 2 year’s experience which is Hakim Warrick whose been in the league a whopping three years.

With all the pre-draft attention given towards the likes of Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley this rookie of the year contest will end up in the media hands. Greg Oden has been injured prone and Michael Beasley is good, but not great. It will come down to O.J and Derrick. O.J needs to consistently scores a lot of points for the Grizzles if he wants the ROY media buzz. If he’s able to score 35 points at least three or four times this year he will win the ROY. For Derrick to win the ROY he needs to lead the Bulls into the second round of the playoffs.

O.J Mayo Highlights
