Notre Dame Stadium- How long will Charlie Weis let the grass grow?

With Notre Dame fans getting tired and restless of Charlie Weis false promises at Notre Dame, it remains to be seen if Charlie will be up to his old tricks again this weekend against the USC Trojans. Will he not cut the grass at Notre Dame stadium in an attempt to neutralize USC’s speed?

Former USC Trojans Errick Craven and Abdoulaye N’Diaye- played for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA D-League

Errick Craven and Abdoulaye N’Diaye played for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA D-League for the 2007-2008 season. Another set of Trojans playing for the same team. How ironic isn’t?

Errick Craven averaged 8.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. While Abdoulaye N’Diaye averaged 4.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.

It makes me wonder what are the chances for them to make the jump from the D-League to the NBA?

Here are the 11 people that played D-League ball that will be playing in this upcoming NBA.

Louis Amundson- undrafted. He averaged 11.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per 25 min in 2006/2007 season. He was the D-League rookie of the year in 2006/2007. He was brought up by the Philadelphia 76er’s for the rest of the 2006/2007 season and continued for the 2007/2008 season. He recently signed with the Phoenix Suns for the 2008/2009 season.

Josh Powell- undrafted. He played 3 game for Fort Wayne before moving up to play with the Dallas Maverick for the 2005/2006 season. Since then, he has played with the Indiana Pacers (2006/2007) and Golden State Warriors (2007). He signed with Los Angeles Lakers for the 2008/2009 season and will replace the spot left departed by Ronny Turiaf who signed with Golden State.

Dahntay Jones- drafted in the 1st round of the 2003 NBA Draft (20th pick) by the Boston Celtics . He played the 2007/2008 season for Fort Wayne, averaging 24.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assist per game. He signed with the Denver Nuggets.

Anthony Roberson- undrafted but signed with Memphis Grizzles in 2005. In 2005/2006, he split playing time with the Grizzles and their D-League team Arkansas RimRockers. For the RimRockers, he averaged 16.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assist per game. He signed with the New York Knicks for the upcoming 2008/2009 season.

Shannon Brown- drafted in the first round of the 2006 NBA draft (25 Pick) by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Brown was assigned to Rio Grande Valley on Jan. 11, 2008 and played in four games for the Rio Valley Vipers of the D-League. He averaged 23.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 42.5 minutes per game . He signed a contract with the Charlotte Bobcat for the upcoming 2008/2009 season.

Patrick O’Bryant- first NBA drafted player to be send down the the D-League. He was selected 9th overall in the 2006 draft. In his D-League experience, he played 25 games for the Bakersfield Jam, averaging 12.0 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.4 assist in 29.6 minutes per game. He signed with the Boston Celtics for the upcoming 2008/2009 season.

Matt Barnes- drafted in the second round of the 2002 draft (46 pick) by the Memphis Grizzles. He was sent down to the Fayetteville Patriots, where he averaged 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assist per game in the 2002/2003 season. Since then, he played for the Clippers, Kings, Knicks, 76ers, and Warriors. He signed with the Phoenix Suns for the upcoming 2008/2009 season.

Dwayne Mitchell- undrafted. He played with the Iowa energy where he averaged 20.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.2 assist per game in the 2007/2008 season. He signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for the upcoming 2008/2009 season.

Anthony Tolliver- was drafted in the second round of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) College Draft 2007. He entered with the Cleveland Cavaliers camp for the 2007/2008 season, and was sent down to the Iowa Energy of the D-League where he averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds in 25 games. He signed with the San Antonio Spurs for the upcoming 2008/2009 season.

Gerald Green- was drafted in the first round of the 2005 NBA draft (18th pick) by the Boston Celtics. He was sent down to the Fayetteville Patriots of the D-League where he averaged 12.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assist for the 2005/2006 season. He was traded to the Wolves, then to the Rockets and released by the Rockets. He signed with the Dallas Maverick for the upcoming 2008/2009 season.

Anthony Johnson- was drafted in the second round of the NBA draft (40th pick) by the Sacramento Kings. He played the 2001/2001 season with the Mobile Revelers of the D-League when he averaged 11.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assist per game. In his NBA career so far, he has played for the Kings, Hawks, Magic, Cavaliers, Nets, Pacers, and Maverick. He signed with the Orlando Magic for the upcoming 2008/2009 season

The Numbers.

In the 2007/2008 season, the D-League had 14 teams and each team had 10 players making the league total of 140 players. Out of the 11 players who signed NBA contracts, only 4 played the 2007/2008 season in the D-League. Therefore, the percentage of an individual making the jump from the D-League to NBA for the 2007/2008 season is a mind-blowing 2.8 %.

Former USC Trojan John David Booty- Couldn’t live up to the hype set by previous USC quarterbacks?

I love and respect JDB, but I feel his lack of respect from some SC fans stems from his attempt of following up to the success of Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart.

In some aspects, we thought Booty would dominate the game in the same regard. As a highly regarded football prospect from his youth, we raised our expectations too high for Booty.

We expected him to win every game and win the heisman. We expected two national championships.

Everything less than these expectations and he’s considered a failure. A great player, but no Carson or Matt.

John David Booty had an unbelievable career at USC. He was a Trojan with a tremendously heart as demonstrated by his willingness to continue to play against Stanford with a broken finger.

It will be interesting to see how Mark Sanchez gets treated. He has a injury that might limit his play for the first game against Virginia. If his injury continues, will the SC fans look at Corps or Mustain for success and leave Sanchez in the dust?

Football is like life, very unpredictable and being at the right place at the right time. Just ask anyone whose name isn’t Emmanuel Moody.

Former USC Trojan Keith Rivers- He’s offically a Bengal in the jungle of the NFL.

Keith Rivers ended his holdout with the Bengals today and I heard signed a 5 year deal for $23 million. This is great news for fellow trojans because Keith was a well respected trojan in his four year’s at USC.

He wore number 55 which also been wore by N.F.L. greats: Junior Seau, Willie McGinest, Markus Steele and Chris Claiborne. He was given that number after being a highly regarded player from Lake Mary High School in Lake Mary, Florida.

At the time, he was highly recruited by Florida and USC. No one know where Keith would end up and forums such wearesc.com and scout.com had pages and pages about where he would end up. It was very hot news because he was a top player from Florida who wanted to play for USC?

During Keith recruiting phase, I was working at Macy’s and one day Mike Garrett came in to purchase a tie from my register. It looked like him and when I checked his I.D. to validate his credit card: MIKE GARRETT.

I looked at him and politely asked him, "Do you know if we’re going to get Keith Rivers?" He looked at me and in a very disturbing voice said, "If I were to tell you it would be a NCAA violation!"

I was appalled and little did I know, a week later Keith Rivers announced that he would wear the Cardinal and Gold and be a trojan for life.

Former USC Trojan Chilo Rachal- The World’s Strongest 49er?

Chilo Rachal is in 49er camp and looks like he can make an immediate impact as a starter. It would be nice to see Chilo have a great first year like Lofa and Troy. As with any rookie, he needs to adjust and adapt to the mental aspect of the game.
